What Sift does with your photos
Sift asks for access to your photo library for exactly one purpose: to find your screenshots (and, if you enable it, camera photos of documents), read the text in them, and organize them for you.
- Text recognition runs on your device using Apple's Vision framework.
- Categorization runs on your device — using Apple's on-device language model where available, or Sift's built-in engine otherwise.
- The search index (recognized text, categories, dates, amounts) is stored in a local database inside the app's own storage on your iPhone.
None of this is transmitted anywhere. Sift makes no network requests. The app functions identically in Airplane Mode.
What Sift collects
Nothing. Sift has:
- No account or sign-in — we couldn't identify you if we wanted to.
- No analytics, telemetry or crash reporting of our own, and no third-party SDKs.
- No ads and no trackers.
- No server. There is no "us" holding your data — there is only your iPhone.
Purchases
Sift Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app only that the purchase exists; Sift never sees your name, payment details, or Apple ID. Apple's handling of that transaction is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Notifications
Reminders for tickets and bills are local notifications, scheduled and delivered by your iPhone itself. No push servers are involved.
Deleting your data
Everything Sift knows lives inside the app. Delete the app and the index, settings, and everything else Sift created are gone. Your screenshots themselves are only ever deleted when you explicitly sweep them in Cleanup — and even then they go to your Photos "Recently Deleted" album, where iOS keeps them for 30 days.
Children
Sift does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Sift ever changes any of the above — for example, by adding an optional online feature — this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be called out in the App Store release notes. The current promise stands: on-device, or not at all.
